Hello everyone who is reading this article. I am Bharath Gurram. I am going to share my amazon.com personal interview experience with you which I attended on 28th April 2011.
As all of you know there are totally 5 rounds in the selection procedure. If you are not aware of these rounds, please read the following article: Amazon.com BPO Jobs 2011
I completed the First 3 rounds and I am waiting in the waiting hall for further process. One of the members from the HR Team came and asked a Photo of mine and a Photocopy of my Identity Proof. Unfortunately I didn’t have any of them and I informed the same. HR said that without these proofs, we cannot continue the interview process. I requested them that I will bring all of them tomorrow so they can complete the further rounds. He said ok and asked me to wait. I waited for almost 45mins in the waiting hall planning in my mind how I should give my interview tomorrow. Suddenly a person came to me and asked, are you MR. Bharath?? I said YES. He asked me to follow him, and I followed him.
Surprisingly he took me into the interview cabin and asked me to take my seat. I was Half-Strucked. It’s interview time now. I am not even thinking of the interview today, unfortunately I was forced to take it. The HR introduced himself as the manager of amazon.com. It’s one more shock for me, I am being interviewed by Manager of amazon.com, He’s not a HR, He’s a Manager. As a reply to his introduction I said “It’s really a Privilege to meet you Sir”, but I fumbled few times when saying it. Actually I am very good in English, but in the shocked state of mind I am in, I messed up with my words. It’s really a Bad Start to the Interview. People say that “First Impression is the Best Impression”, Unfortunately I lost the First Impression.
The First Question to me was “Why Amazon??” it’s nothing but HR is asking me “Why are you interested to work in amazon.com??” I replied it, but he’s not satisfied with it. The Second Question was “What are the Skills required for doing this Job??” I replied, Excellent Communication Skills and Interpersonal Skills are most essential. He’s not satisfied even with this answer. He again asked are they sufficient?? I sad yes, but actually I missed some of the very important skills which are essential for costumer support professionals. They are nothing but patience and Typing Skills.
He asked me some other questions like what are your future plans. How will you see after 5 years from now etc., and I answered them confidently. The interview continued for about 15minutes. The last question to me was again “Why Amazon??” He asked me to answer it again and I did. Thus the Interview Completed and the Manager asked me to wait for further information.
Thank GOD, I am selected in the Interview, I completed the last round which is Typing Round and I got the Job.
Real Twist:
I am earlier informed that the Package would be 2.24lacs and the job would be permanent, But the Package they offered me was 1.2lacs and I am selected as just contact employee, not permanent. I thought this is because of my Poor Performance in the interview. I Lost the First Impression and I didn’t satisfy the interviewer with my answers to his first two questions. This is what a little bit of Tension can result on the performance. I was very disappointed with my performance, and I know I didn’t performed upto my potential.
Moral of the Story:
1) Don’t get tensed at any Situation.
2) First Impression is the Best Impression.
3) Be Prepared for the Worst.
